Wildfire Prepared Home™, a program from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), empowers homeowners to take science-based, proven steps to meaningfully reduce wildfire risk to their home and property. Follow this science-based checklist to strengthen your home’s wildfire protection and meet the Wildfire Prepared Home Technical Standard requirements.

Note that (as of January 2026) this program has not yet rolled out in Washington state; however, the standards described in this document serve as an excellent science-backed reference for Washington residents looking to reduce wildfire risk.
